Rapid Rooster sits on a 3,000-acre private ranch that borders the new Pete Lien Sports Shooting Complex — just ten miles north of Rapid City.
We're in country with outstanding pheasant cover and no natural pheasant population, so every bird in the field is one we put there. All of our birds come from West River Ringnecks, our neighbor next door. We also hold a naturally reproducing population of sharp-tailed grouse that you're welcome to hunt alongside the roosters.
2026 is our first season as a state-approved pheasant preserve, which opens the calendar from September 1 all the way through March 31.

Half-Day Pheasant Hunt
Three hours in the field with a guide and at least one dog. You decide how many birds go out. $50 per pheasant released, plus $10 per hunter, per day.

The Pete Lien Sports Shooting Complex borders our ranch — and it changes what a day here can be.
Olympic-style bunker trap, skeet, and a full sporting clay course, all within walking distance of the birds. Shoot for fun or shoot for score in the morning, break for lunch, then hunt roosters in the afternoon.
Groups can add long-range rifle shooting, a pistol tactical course, a rim-fire steel course, and seasonal prairie dog hunting.
